Top of the Pines and Beaumont Hotel Wedding

Adventurous couples make our hearts sing! We live for adventure in our own lives, and work to incorporate it into our photography as often as possible (and as long as our couples are up for letting us push them). Needless to say, Nick and Carla’s Top of the Pines and Beaumont Hotel wedding in their home of Ouray, Colorado was absolutely, positively filled with adventure!

When we first met Nick and Carla, we knew a friendship was starting. Their love for adventure motorcycle riding, sunrise hikes, exploring new areas, all paired with the adventurous sprits that lead them to move to Ouray, Colorado from Florida…well, let’s just say that they had us at “Hello”. We were so excited to not only be apart of their wedding day as photographers, but to also get to witness their marriage beginning with their closest friends and family at one of the most stunning places in Colorado, Top of the Pines in Ridgeway, Colorado. Their Beaumont Hotel reception felt like a tiny hideaway in the Switzerland of America and the love that surrounded them was amazing to see. We’re so excited to share their wedding day with y’all! Nick and Carla, we are so thrilled for the two of you and we can’t wait to hear all about your honeymoon motorcycle trip!

• How did the two of you meet?
“I was working at a company in Ybor, Florida as a software developer and Nick was brought on as a contractor to help out with one of our upcoming projects. Once we started getting coffee and lunch together, it didn’t take long for us to become best friends.”

Nick, how did you propose?

“I tricked Carla into doing sunrise photos in one of her favorite places, Yankee Boy Basin, and proposed as the sun was coming up over the mountains while the camera was on a tripod with a timer.”

Tell us about your first date!

“Nick planned a day in Safety Harbor, Florida and kept it all a secret ahead of time. He took me to Philippe Park and then we grabbed dinner and drinks at this delicious place called Southern Fresh (southern food is one of my favorites). From there we grabbed ice cream and explored the city talking about any and everything.”

Tell us about your first look. Having done one, would you do it again?

Nick : “The first look was amazing. It created a lot of fun suspense and really added to the excitement of the day. Having a first look also helped to calm any nerves by seeing each other before the big moment in front of everyone else. I would 100% do it again.’
Carla : “The first look was my favorite part of the day. Having that moment to pause and truly have some time alone together to soak it in before getting pulled in every direction really helped relax me. Everything after that seemed to go by so fast! I would absolutely do it again.”

If you could pick one word to describe your Top of the Pines wedding ceremony, what would it be?

Nick : “Perfect.”
Carla : “Perfect.”

What was your most memorable moment from your wedding day?

Nick : “The first look. That moment mad everything feel very real and validated all of the planning and effort that went into making this day so special.”
Carla : “The first look. Getting to spend an intimate moment with Nick beforehand really helped to calm me down in my moment of anxiety.”

What are you most looking forward to in marriage?

Nick : “An amazing life filled with new adventures with my best friend.
Carla : “Waking up every day next to the love of my life. Knowing that we will always have each other makes the future nothing but exciting.”

How did you guys choose the Beaumont Hotel for your wedding venue?

 “The Beaumont is walking distance from our house and has always been one of our favorite buildings in Ouray. It’s a historical part of our town and after getting a tour of the courtyard and its views it was impossible to pass up!”

What advice do you have for couples planning their wedding now?

Nick : “Go with your gut feeling. Pick what you want and don’t settle.”
Carla : “Don’t be afraid to change something if you’re not 100% comfortable with your decision. We changed our minds about a few major things all the way up until two weeks before the wedding and it was all so worth it to have what we really wanted! It’s your day and you should look back on it with no regrets.”

What was the most fun part of wedding planning for you?

Nick : “The menu!! Picking all of our favorites from Provisions, one of the local restaurants we go to often who catered the reception!”
Carla : “Doing it together! It was a new experience for both of us planning any kind of event and I think we made a really great team!”

Are you going on a honeymoon? If so, where are you going?

“Yes, we are currently on a motorcycle trip from Colorado to the Pacific Northwest! We have been playing everything by ear, which has made for a really exciting adventure so far!”
