Tell us about your wedding venue. How did you decide to have your Colorado wedding at Piney River Ranch in Vail?
Codey may not know this, but I had Piney River Ranch in mind long before he proposed. Once he popped the question and we started to look for venues, the photos were all that we needed to know that it was the perfect place for us to get married. When we shared it with our families, it became clear why I was so drawn to it, as I had visited Piney once before when I was just a year old with my late grandfather. It is such a special place where time is irrelevant, and you can truly feel your mind settle and heart fill with peace in the presence of its beauty and grandeur. We have traveled lots in the eight years we’ve been together, but Piney will always be one of the most spectacular sights we’ve ever seen. We are lucky to be able to revisit often with it being less than an hour and a half away from where we live. A hidden gem for sure and hopefully it stays that way!
How did the two of your meet?
As rebellious teenagers do, Taylor schemed with a friend to take the family car and sneak out to meet mutual friends at a party. This party turned out to be at Codey’s house and Taylor was not as comfortable with the surrounding shenanigans as she thought she would be. Codey quickly recognized this and soon struck up a conversation over some footsie to calm the nerves. From this point on, they were inseparable. Who knew on that wild night, those two kids would meet their future life partners.

As beautiful of a moment as it was, it didn’t come as much of a surprise. After surviving eight months living together under lockdown through a pandemic, we knew we could handle anything and were ready to commit to a lifetime together. On a weekend away in Boulder, we stopped by a jewelry shop to fix a pair of Taylor’s earrings. One happy hour and two beers later, we found ourselves back at Hurdle’s designing an engagement ring together. With sapphires holding a special place in our love story through the pieces of jewelry Codey has gifted Taylor over the years, Sapphire Point overlooking Lake Dillon just seemed like the perfect place to make it official. On November 7th of 2020, ring in his back pocket and a friend with a camera in tow, Codey got down on one knee in front of an audience of chipmunks to ask those four special words.
What was your most memorable moment during your ceremony?
Honestly, the ceremony was a blur. We got back to the pavilion and looked at each other and said “Did that really just happen?” The one thing we do recall is the look in one others’ eyes because that was the only thing that truly mattered.
What are you most looking forward to in marriage?
Sharing forever with my best friend—dreaming, adventuring, laughing, crying together. All the firsts still to come.
